When he became a Trustee of Living Streets in 2011, our Director John Dales began a tradition he’s managed to maintain most years since: to undertake a long Walk to Work during the National Walking Month of May. Each year, as he walks, he posts photos and commentary on his social media relating to the walking environment and the interesting or joy-giving things he comes across. This year, having recently become Chair of the charity, he undertook his longest walk yet - a Half Marathon endeavour starting at Seven Kings station in east London and ending in EC1. And for the first time, he did this accompanied by someone else – his daughter Connie. This was because the particular theme of this year’s National Walking Month was on the experiences of women and girls while walking.

You can read it below, or click on the link below, to download a pdf document based on the photos and brief thoughts that John posted on BlueSky as he and Connie walked, but adding further detail and some additional ‘pull-outs’ on particular topics. In addition to this, Living Streets has produced a ‘Blind Date’ blog exploring John’s and Connie’s different reflections on what they encountered as they strolled along. You can find that here: https://www.livingstreets.org.uk/dales
