Roman Road Public Realm Strategy | LB Tower Hamlets
As a town centre with a contracting street marketing located in an area with significant barriers to strategic movement, the Roman Road Public Realm Strategy has helped to inform the delivery of public realm improvements; their form and phasing. The Strategy has acted as both an inspirational guide and a practical strategy for the revival of the Roman Road East Town Centre by proposing targeted improvements to the public realm that will create appropriate spaces, which currently do not exist, for the many activities commensurate with this District Centre. A number of consultation and engagement events were held and, in combination with a comprehensive SWOT analysis of the area, a common vision for Roman Road was established that gained support from Officers, Members and the public. From this a strategy was developed that included a range of design principles and material palettes covering the four character areas as well as a number of bespoke public realm interventions. These interventions will create streets and spaces that are coherent, robust and contemporary and will better placing Roman Road to respond to the challenges and opportunities of the future and in particular the Olympic Games.
The London Borough of Tower Hamlets has now implemented this strategy. |
