A graduate of Environmental Design from Guangxi University, Bolang gained the necessary and fundamental spatial design skills required to develop landscape-led design solutions for complex urban environments, as well as his honing own unique aesthetic understanding. His early career enabled him to enhance his practical skills and gave him a deeper understanding of detailing, planting plans, materials specification and structural knowledge which enable him to creatively assess opportunities through the lens of deliverability.
At the University of Edinburgh Bolang undertook postgraduate studies in Landscape Architecture where he continued to unearth his landscape design philosophy, which is that landscape should not simply create better ecological environments for recreation and leisure, but more importantly capture the character and feel of the site - respecting history, surroundings and existing conditions and community. This idea has been applied to his designs at various scales; from the study of topography and rainfall in the design of large urban parks; to the preservation of existing trees and ruins in abandoned walled gardens by the sea. Bolang joined Urban Movement in 2022 with the desire to use his design ideas and philosophy to create better and more site-specific streets, where pedestrians and even animals are attracted to the street and make it a social, recreational and ecological place for the city, questioning the uniformity and unfriendliness of urban streets to pedestrians and cyclists. |
