Ben has recently joined Urban Movement as Head of Active Travel. He has over fifteen years experience of transport planning and urban design. Prior to joining Urban Movement, Ben has worked at consultancy, local authority and third sector organisations. Ben’s technical expertise ranges from initial site analysis and concept design, through to public engagement and detailed design.

Ben’s expertise is focussed on the development of evidence-led strategies to inform street design responses. This approach is applied to a wide variety of innovative methodologies for securing the best design outcome for projects. Throughout all of his projects, Ben works collaboratively to ensure that the design response is sympathetic and incorporates the contributions of stakeholders.

Ben works across a wide range of design scales and settings, from development of high street public realm improvements through to proposals for rural greenways. The role of vehicular traffic and its relationship with streetscapes is often a key consideration across most design settings. Movement Strategies are therefore a key project type for Ben, and he has led the development of strategies from small village centres through to complex city centre environments. Ben has recently led Movement Strategies in: Farnham, Lewes, Ramsgate, Wakefield, Wells, Faversham, Haverhill and Basingstoke. Throughout all of these projects, the project’s focus has been on reconciling the role of vehicular traffic against its impact on the quality of streetscapes and public realm.
